IVRS at scale — reaching 1M+ patients on TB adherence
Multilingual interactive voice response systems for TB adherence, ANC follow-up and nutrition counselling — reaching patients who don't own smartphones.
The challenge
India's TB programme loses a meaningful share of patients to non-adherence during the 6-month treatment course. Smartphone apps reach the patient population least at risk; the patients most at risk speak a regional language, live in low-connectivity geographies, and rely on a feature phone or a shared family phone. Reaching them required a voice rail, not an app rail.
Our approach
Indev built and operates a high-volume IVRS platform that delivers adherence reminders, side-effect screening and counselling in over a dozen Indian languages. Calls are scheduled against a patient's treatment cohort, responses are captured into a structured record, and red-flag screening (e.g. drug intolerance) is routed to the supervising counsellor within hours.
Technology stack
- High-throughput IVRS (Asterisk + custom IVR DSL)
- Multilingual voice prompt management
- Cohort-aware scheduler
- Red-flag escalation pipeline
- Counsellor case-management UI
Impact in the field
Indev's IVRS rail is one of the larger non-smartphone patient-outreach platforms in Indian public health. It has been extended beyond TB to antenatal care follow-up and nutrition counselling, using the same scheduling and red-flag pipeline.
